moon child // The Wonders of Pinterest

Featured(9)

One of my favourite social media sites that I’ve had for a long time but recently rediscovered my love for is: Pinterest.

Pinterest is essentially a wonderwall of pictures, collages and moodboards that allow you to build your own dream life and aesthetic in your own little pretty corner of the internet. On my Pinterest, for example, I have a board dedicated to my favourite animals: mostly pictures of German Shepherds, other dogs, cats, elephants, snakes, big cats and more. I have a board called ‘dream home’ (basically a lot of typewriters and pretty desks), a board called ‘Scotland’ (filled with spectacular landscapes from bonnie Caledonia and all things Scottish), a board dedicated to fashion, hair and beauty (mostly Kylie Jenner in french briads), and even a board dedicated to my favourite film and book: Trainspotting, and more!

Pinterest is a haven for artists and creatives, and is a great hub of inspiration whether you’re an artist, photographer, writer or designer.

The great thing for me being able to create my own little world on Pinterest is that I can also post my articles, short stories, and blog posts on the site! I can simply click on ‘add pin’ and insert a link to one of my pieces, and straight away I have a new platform to introduce my writing to a wider readership.

Pinterest is so varied, diverse and packed with anything and everything you can think of that even if you’re looking for a cake recipe, summer holiday destination inspiration, makeup advice, arts and crafts ideas and everything in between, you’re bound to find something you’ll love here.

The other handy aspect of the site is, if you’re like me and are constantly having ideas and then forgetting them, you can save or ‘pin’ images that contain something that you want to try out/buy and go back to them later.

If you already have Pinterest or if you’re thinking of setting up a profile, visit my page and click ‘follow‘! I follow everyone back and I’m always on the look out for cool new pictures of fashion, food, tattoos, animals, literature and much more.

‘moon child’ Blogmas: Top 5 Christmas Films

Featured(1)

It’s day 4 of ‘moon child’ Blogmas, and today’s post is dedicated to my top 5 Christmas movies! So, grab some popcorn (or mince pies and mulled wine, whatever you fancy) and snuggle up for some festive favourites!

In 5th place, it’s… The Polar Express!

This film is a modern classic children’s Christmas movie in stunning computer animation that makes everything seem almost spookily real. The film follows a young boy who is having a bit of a crisis of faith with Santa Claus. As he struggles to believe that old Khris Kringle actually exists, a mystery train rolls into his town on Christmas Eve with a charming, knowledgable and philosophical train conductor (Tom Hanks) urging him to come aboard. On the train, the young boy meets new friends and they are taken on a journey to the North Pole to meet the big man himself!

In 4th place, it’s…Elf!

Will Ferrel’s classic Christmas movie really is hilarious fun for everyone in the family from excitable toddlers to grumpy, old (and probably drunk) grandparents.

As a baby, Buddy the Elf sneaks into Santa’s toy bag and is taken home to the North Pole, where he is raised as an elf. But when Buddy grows three times bigger than the rest of the elves and realises he is different, Papa Elf tells him the truth: that his real father lives in New York City. Buddy goes to the Big Apple in search of his dad and, not surprisingly, finds it hard to fit in in the ‘human world’. And, even worse, Christmas spirit seems to be dwindling in the big city, meaning that Santa’s sleigh won’t be able to fly on Christmas Eve without the power of belief. It’s up to Buddy to spread yuletide cheer and save Christmas.

3rd place goes to…National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!

Following Clark W. Griswold (Chevy Chase) and his family on their good old fashioned family Christmas, Christmas Vacation is, naturally, a complete disaster. Between unwanted hillybilly family members gatecrashing Christmas, Scrooge-like bosses, and countless calamities, embarrassments, accidents and arguments, the Griswold’s have a festively horrible time of it, and it’s hilarious. That’s what a family Christmas is really all about!

In 2nd place, it’s…The Grinch!

Universal’s adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring the hilarious, visual and physical spectacle actor Jim Carrey as the Grinch is a must-watch this Christmas.

On the outskirts of Whoville lives a socially isolated green creature, the Grinch, who hates Christmas and plots to steal it from the yuletide-loving Whos. Until a little Who, Cindy Lou, comes along to nominate the Grinch to be Holiday Cheermeister as she believes that no one should be alone on Christmas, and tries to change the Grinch’s mind and warm his heart.

And in 1st place, it is…Home Alone!

8-year-old Kevin McCallister, a tiny figure among a huge squabbling family, fights with his brother the night before a Christmas trip to Paris and is punished by sleeping up on the 3rd floor. But the next morning, after wishing his family would disappear, Kevin wakes up alone as his family have gone to Paris, and forgotten him! Home alone in a big house, Kevin doesn’t get much time to enjoy his free reign of the fridge for long, as evil (yet dumb) burglars Harry and Marv set their sights on his home, and he has to defend it for himself.

This hilarious, slap-stick Christmas classic has been a long time Christmas favourite and will be for many years to come.
