Cutting the (TV) Cord: the Pros of Watching Television Online

For this month’s Strathclyde Telegraph, I also wrote a piece on the Pros of Online TV. You can read my piece here and you can read my friend (and very talented colleague) Rachael’s article about the Cons of Online TV here. What do you think? Are you pro or anti Online TV?

How the Media Are Demonishing Mental Illness

Another of my new Strathclyde Telegraph articles for this month is now live! After the appaulling behaviour from our media in reporting the Germanwings crash and the death of actor Robin Williams, I examine how the media demonise those with mental health problems and promote the stigma behind mental illness. Sex Education: Are we doing it right?

For this month’s Strathclyde Telegraph, I took on the awkward subject of sex education. With Denmark announcing plans to include information on how to get pregnant as well as how to prevent it in their sex education curriculum, I pose the question: should we broadening the topics we discuss in our sex education here in Scotland? Could our limited and outdated sex and relationship lessons be putting our young people in vulnerable and even danger situations? Read the article here to find out!

I am “Author of the Month” on Short Story Sunday!

Today, I checked my emails, expecting to see another tedious spam message, to find out that I have won the prize of “Author of the Month” for my piece “Ivy Moon” on Short Story Sunday! I can’t believe I won!

I didn’t think my story would even get a look in because there are so many brilliant stories on the website and with over 200 members, I wasn’t expecting my story to get much attention, let alone votes! I win a £15 Amazon voucher and a copy of short story collection Unthology, so I can’t wait for those to arrive in the post!

I think it’s very difficult for young writers to get noticed when it comes to fiction as opposed to articles because by their nature of being accessible and easily digestible, articles are always more popular. So to receive this recognition and praise for a short story of mine (especially when I’ve been doubting my abilities in writing fiction lately) is amazing and I’m so happy! A huge thank you to everyone who voted for me and if you haven’t read my story or visited Short Story Sunday’s website, click here!

“Blame the Predator, Not the Victim” article published on CultNoise!

My first article for CultNoise is now live! In light of the sexist and offensive comments made by a judge in relation to the tragic death of student Karen Buckley, I decided to write a piece on victim blaming. You can read it here!!!
